RECAP: Melville United vs Auckland United FC | Northern League | Round 10
This Saturday our Auckland United FC Premier Men’s side travel to Hamilton to face Melville United, with a win required to consolidate their 4th placed position on the the table.
After clawing back a point in the second half vs Western Springs AFC at the weekend, the team are hanging in there with 15 points, just ahead of Western Springs and Melville United who both sit on 13 points.
The lads will be hoping to string together a top performance this weekend in Hamilton, where a win for Melville United would see them leapfrog us on the Table and into the coveted Top 4.
Melville United vs Auckland United | Match Report:
This match was played in atrocious conditions at Korikori Park in Hamilton, where a tight first half ended 0 - 1 to Auckland United after Ignacio Machuca scored in the 29th minute.
The pouring rain and wind continued throughout the match but the second half opened up for United and although Melville United managed to sneak one past us, the match ultimately finished 1 - 5, with Auckland United claiming all 3 points over a close top 4 rival.
Goals from 5 different players will be pleasing for the coaching staff with Machuca’s goal (29’) followed up by second half strikes from Zach Chung (51’), Nico Zambrano (66’), Yousif Al-Kalisy (79’) and Josh Redfearn (90+3’).
The win means we remain in 4th place on the table and join Manurewa on 18 points, although the South Auckland side maintains a significant gold difference advantage of +8 over our team.
Next round the Premier Men will face top of the table Eastern Suburbs who will are in form and will take some beating.
