Opening round Chatham Cup & Kate Sheppard Cup wins for Auckland United FC
Auckland United FC’s Premier Men’s and Women’s teams have prevailed in the opening rounds of their respective Cup campaigns, with wins over Ngaruawahia United and Cambridge FC.
The Kings Birthday double header at Keith Hay Park saw our Premier Men claim a comfortable 4 - 1 win over Ngaruawahia United (HT: 2 - 1) with Captain Ross Haviland notching 100 First Team appearances.
It was Ben Wallace who opened the scoring in the 25th minute, converting from the spot. A 40th minute own goal was then followed by a Daniel Atkinson strike in the 70th, before Ishveer Singh converted our second penalty of the day to seal things (90 + 22’).
Ealier in the afternoon our Premier Women claimed a crushing 7 - 0 win over Cambridge FC in the Kate Sheppard Cup.
Rene Wasi was once again in top form, picking up a hat-trick of goals with strikes in the 28th, 44th, and 71st minutes.
Angela Pivac was also in a goal scoring mood, claiming a first half double with goals in the 7th and 41st minutes.
Captain Talisha Green was on the scoresheet in the 35th minute, whilst Ruby Nathan also found the back of the net in the 54th minute after returning from Canberra United for another stint with Auckland United.
Our Premier Men now look forward to another tough challenge vs Auckland City FC at Kiwitea St this Satuday in Round 12 of the Northern League, kickoff 3:00pm.
Our top of the table Premier Women face Fencibles United in Round 11 of the Lotto NRFL Women’s Premiership this Saturday, kickoff 1:30pm at Riverhills Park.
