Auckland United FC top Pool B after big win over defending champs at OFC Women’s Champions League

Auckland United FC Premier Women have bounced back from their opening draw vs Fiji’s Labasa FC to overcome New Caledonia’s defending Champions AS Academy Féminine 0 - 5 in their second pool match of the OFC Women’s Champions League.

Up 0 - 2 at halftime after the lethal Rene Wasi scored in the 5th and 45th minutes, there was more pain to come for AS Academy Féminine with Wasi claiming her hat-trick 10 minutes into the second half.

With the result seemingly in the bag, United unleashed their bench and although several chances wen’t begging the score eventually blew out with Penny Brill (88’) and Charlotte Roche (90’) both finding the back of the net.

There was a lot to enjoy about this performance with the likes of 15-year-old Pia Vlok impressing after getting a start, and so much young talent coming through the ranks.

Our team now sits atop Pool B heading into our final pool game vs the Tonga’s Veitongo FC on Sunday at 2:00pm, streaming live and free on FIFA+.

Althgouh Veitongo FC are without a point after their opening two matches, losing 1 - 4 to AS Academy Féminine and 2 - 0 Labasa FC, coach Ben Bate and team won’t be taking anything for granted, but confidence will surely be building amongst the group that we can go deep into this tournament.

Do not miss our final pool match this Sunday vs Veitongo FC, kicking off at 2pm NZT at the National Stadium in Honiara, Solomon Islands, with a place in the semi finals up for grabs!
