Auckland United FC has partnered with Northern Region Football launching the NRF Gender Equity Charter, an ongoing commitment to continue growing inclusiveness across our football clubs.

The Charter was launched at NRF's Wahine in Football event on Friday 28 July.

Auckland United FC representatives including AUFC Women & Girls Chair Rachel Alley were in attendance and were presented with a framed copy of the charter from Laura Menzies, Chief Executive of Northern Region Football.

AUFC Women & Girls Chair Rachel Alley said “We look forward to working with NRF and the football clubs of Auckland to create positive change for the players, volunteers and staff providing opportunities and pathways for all to participate and contribute in our football community.“

“While the tradition and experience within established football clubs is daunting, I am hopeful that our club members, parents and caregivers and volunteers will consider the ways their unique experiences can help our club to be as inclusive and diverse as we can be across the Charter areas: leadership, participation, visibility, resources and facilities.”

The NRF Gender Equity Charter is about benchmarking where clubs are now, where they want to get to and the steps that are needed, focusing on:

  • Leadership - Leadership and governance that reflects and supports gender equity

  • Participation - Equitable participation and development opportunities, including juniors and youth girls-only football

  • Visibility - Make girls and women visible, showing their value in our club

  • Resources - Equitable resources and opportunities for girls and women

  • Facilities - Fit for purpose facilities that meet the specific needs of girls and women in our club

NRF CEO Laura Menzies said  “The Charter is really exciting for the whole football community, and what better time to launch than during a FIFA Women’s World Cup in our backyard?”

“By committing publicly to equity, this group of clubs are committing to positive change. Making our game more inclusive will help it grow sustainably and better reflect our diverse communities. We know there are clubs doing great work in this space, this is about working together to lift equity throughout our game in a strategic way,” said Laura Menzies.
