Eastern Suburbs AFC Premier Women have walked away from the bright lights of Keith Hay Park 1 - 4 winners in the inaugural Rennell Cup showdown vs Auckland United FC Premier Women, the showpiece match closing out a massive double double header.

The new #1 surface at Keith Hay Park looked impeccable under lights for the very first time and Eastern Suburbs were certainly up for it, putting on a convincing performance to claim the trophy.

The match was for the most part played in perfect conditions with Eastern Suburbs dominating long periods of play before heavy rain arrived in the last 10 minutes, the result already in the bag.

Our women will be disappointed they were unable to exert themselves on the night, but there’s no question they were up against a very good ESAFC team, who with the win leapfrog us into 1st place on the table, although we do still hold a game in hand.

Following a break for Kings Birthday Weekend, Auckland United FC Premier Women travel to meet Hibiscus Coast who have picked up just 2 wins and draw so far this season, that match kicking off at 1:00pm on Sunday June 11.

Auckland United FC Premier Men vs Eastern Suburbs AFC | Northern League | Round 11

The curtain raiser played between the Premier Men was a more even contest, but again Eastern Suburbs had the edge for long periods and the lion’s share of chances throughout, walking away 0 - 1 winners and extending their lead at the top of the Northern League Table.

It’s been an impressive campaign so far from Eastern Suburbs who are still yet to drop a game with 9 wins and 2 draws from their 11 matches played.

Despite the loss Auckland United FC Premier Men continue to cling on to 4th place on the table with 18 points, just 2 points ahead of their nearest rivals Western Springs and Melville United, both on 16 points.

Our Auckland United FC Premier Men are back in action next weekend, away to Takapuna who are currently struggling near the bottom of the table after a pretty miserable start to the season for the men from the North Shore.

The lads will no doubt be confident they can bounce back with a strong performance to maintain this season’s momentum, solidifying their place in the Top 4, and ultimately gaining qualification for the National League.
